It’s always a great time to go to camp, right? Especially when it’s a church camp for the kids. While church camps all feel similar, they’re not all created equal…or just don’t fit what your child needs. That is where we at Oak Ridge Baptist Church want to give you an assist. We’ve gathered 9 essential considerations for selecting a church camp here in Spring, TX, so follow along to see what we feel make the best camp for your child.
1. Alignment
Does this camp align with your personal faith vision? When looking for a church camp, you want to choose one that fits with what your child is learning in church. Keeping that feeling and stability will help them strengthen their relationship with God.
2. Overnight vs Day
A good thing to narrow down when picking a church camp is if your child will do better in a day camp, or if they can thrive in a sleepaway camp environment.
3. Activities
This one is a big item to keep in mind. You want to make sure that whatever church camp you choose offers activities that will keep your child interested and engaged! This will change based on lots of things, but especially age.
4. Distance
How far away are you willing to let your child be for camp? Or how far away can they go without separation issues?
5. Pricing
We understand this is not a church-based reason for selecting a camp, but it is a key thing to look at. Church camps can vary in cost, and you want to be sure that you find one that fits in your family’s budget.
6. Ability
Does your child have the ability to take care of their daily basic needs? A counselor can only do so much in this realm, so if your child has any special needs, that can impact your choice of camp.
7. Organization
Look for a church camp that has a good organizational structure. A well-run camp will be a fun camp!
8. Care
Find a camp that really cares about its campers. A good church camp will show love to your kids both emotionally and spiritually, keeping them in a good place.
9. Teaching
This circles back a bit to our first point, but you want to get your child into a camp that will provide them with teachings to get them closer to God. The goal of church camp is to allow space and time for God’s love and His spirit to fill your kid without other life distractions!
Church camp is a highlight of the year for many, and finding the right one for your kid is key to an exciting time. While all these considerations we mentioned are important, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tout our own camps!
