A Future and a Hope: Respecting God’s Plan For You

by | Aug 17, 2018 | Faith

If you’re like most people, you make plans for the future and experience frustration when things don’t work out the way you’d hoped. As a Christian, you must learn to make plans while acknowledging that God’s plans for you trump your own desires. Jeremiah 29:11 reads, “For I know the plans I have for you … plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

God’s Plan For You

God has a plan for everyone, no matter what age, walk of life or previous mistakes. However, to realize what His plan is, you need to follow the steps of seeking him. Listen, pray, walk in righteousness, and surrender your own selfish will.

Surrender Your Will

It’s easy to say that you’re seeking God’s will, what often what you’re actually doing is making your own plans and hoping that God doesn’t get in the way. Before God will reveal His will to you, you must be committed to doing whatever He desires for you to do. God will be slow to show you His plan if you’re unlikely to follow it. Click To Tweet

Listen To God

Perhaps you don’t intentionally disobey God, but if you don’t listen to his guidance you are, in essence, ignoring Him. Regardless of how loudly God speaks, we won’t hear unless listening is a priority. We must ask Him to teach us to hear and then work towards a quiet mind. An internal peace comes from being committed to prayer, meditation, and practice at listening. In addition, carry with you a spirit of submission to obey His commands.

Walk in Righteousness

Walking in righteousness means living a life that is right with God. It entails being obedient by following His commandments and guidance. This involves seeking and following the truth as its stated in the Bible. Studying the Bible will show you how to live a life of righteousness, abandoning temporal desires. Walking in righteousness is an act of rebellion against a culture that values selfishness as a virtue. Only in that mentality will you be receptive to God’s direction.

A Great Purpose

With God guiding you, nothing is impossible. He will help use your life experiences to minister to others who are dealing with similar challenges. People often think they aren’t good enough to follow a certain path, but that is a dissuader from the enemy and should be disregarded. God has a great purpose for you. Doubting that is not His will, but that of the adversary.
