Faithful in the Little Things: Church Membership

by | Mar 23, 2017 | Faith

On your journey to being faithful in the little things you will come to the matter of being faithful to your church. Your local congregation is your personal localized portion of the universal body of Christ. In it you find community, accountability, and support along the life journey of becoming more Christ-like. It is here where we “…hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:23-25 (NASB) Consider the meaning and purpose of church membership.

Church Membership at ORBC

You may wonder what the big deal is about church membership. Maybe you already give and attend regularly and you wonder why you should need to become a member. Use the following guide to understand church membership at ORBC, a local church in Spring, TX .

1) Protect the unity.

By becoming a member you pledge to protect the unity of the church. Before all things is love and you will protect the unity of the church by first loving each other. This is how the world will know we are His disciples. Love the other members and act accordingly. Do not gossip, but build each other up and encourage one another toward Christ. You also protect the unity by following the leadership of the church as they strive to follow Christ.

2) Share the responsibility.

There is a lot of work to do! The harvest is ripe, but sometimes the workers are few. By becoming a member of the church you agree to pray for our growth. You will invite those you know who do not yet believe to attend services and hear the gospel. As a body our heart is to welcome all who visit with warm, open arms and the love of Christ. You just agree to do your part.

3) Serve the ministry.

We are all called to minister the gifts He has given us to each other. When you become a member, we encourage and invite you to discover your spiritual gifts and talents. Allow your pastor and the staff to help equip you for every good work. Allow the Lord to minister your gifts and talents to each other through His Spirit. But most of all, allow the Lord to grow in you a servant’s heart after the heart of Christ.

4) Support the testimony.

Together we are the church. Together we are the body of Christ. None of us can do it alone. We need each other and the church needs you. Support the testimony of your church by attending regularly. Live your life chasing after Christ and becoming more like Him. Seek the Lord and give financially to your local body faithfully.
