As we approach a new year, you may be looking to improve yourself in some way. This could be physically, mentally, and even spiritually! One wonderful way to work on your spiritual wellbeing is taking a journey through the Bible. So few people have actually read the Bible from beginning to end, which means not many people know the full depth and detail of God’s words for us. If this sounds like something you might want to embark on, then this may be the right place for you!
The Stats
Reading through the full Bible can sound daunting when you look at it from a numbers standpoint: 66 books, around 1,200 pages, about 31,102 verses, and over 700,000 words. If you were to read it all in one sitting, it would take about 70 hours. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, that’s where Oak Ridge Baptist Church can help. We actually have a monthly program that can take you through the full Bible over the course of the year! We help you break it down into morning and evening study times, taking you through both Old and New Testaments simultaneously.
The Journey
Part of our fellowship here at ORBC revolves around community and mentorship. Reading through the Bible is no exception, and we encourage all of our members to find people that they can connect with and turn this reading project into a fellowship opportunity! Whether you create a small group to go through the Bible monthly program or if you want to join our already-established Sunday morning adult Bible fellowship classes, there will be an option for you.
The Results
Only around 25% of people who begin in the Christian faith have ever read the entirety of the Bible, which means that only about a quarter of Christians have a full understanding of God’s Word and everything that He has shared with us. Through the Bible, we get to know God not just as an idea, but as a being that we can place our trust in. We get to see just how much He cares for each of us, and the wonders He has performed to show us this. Reading the Bible also can give us a way to channel our thoughts and prayers by focusing on different verses or stories. By reading through the whole Bible and connecting with others while doing so, you can improve every aspect of your life through your faith: spiritually, mentally, and even physically.
