Is a daily quiet time part of your daily routine? If it isn’t, we urge you to consider setting aside time to spend with God every day. It doesn’t have to be for a long time, but even starting your day with five minutes of quiet time can give great benefits to your relationship with God.

There are many benefits to a quiet time with God that are both physical and spiritual. Find out what they are here! #ORBC #quiettime Click To Tweet

There are so many benefits to setting time aside to spend with God.  From spiritual regeneration to physical benefits to our body and our mental health, meditating on scripture is great for your health. Let’s explore these benefits in more depth:

What is a Quiet Time?

When we talk about quiet times, we are talking about dedicating a little bit of our day to meditating on scripture without distraction. Though this is a difficult habit to get into, it is a rewarding one.

Taking time to read the Bible helps expand your knowledge of God’s word, and lets us be more grounded as Christians. Also, there are clear spiritual and physical benefits to meditating on the Word every day.

Spiritual Benefits

Reading scripture benefits your soul in a big way. The 3 biggest spiritual benefits to a daily quiet time with God are that it draws us closer to Him, refreshes our soul, and it restores our joy.

    1) Draws us closer to God

If you want to grow your relationship with the Lord, study his word daily. John 15:5 says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

     2) Refreshes our Souls

Spending time with God uniquely refreshes your soul. King David says in Psalms 23,

“The Lord is my shepherd, I will not be in need.

He lets me lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside [a]quiet waters.

He restores my soul;

He guides me in the [b]paths of righteousness

For the sake of His name.”

     3) Restores your Joy

Peace and quiet help restore joy. It is much easier to be joyful about the things the Lord has given you when you take time to appreciate His generosity. Spending time with God lets you be joyful about the life you have.

Physical Benefits

Not only does quiet meditation on the Word help your spiritual health, but it also helps your body and mind. Let’s look at these benefits in more depth.

      1) Lowers Blood Pressure

Taking ten minutes early in the morning to be quiet has proven to lower blood pressure. It allows your body to recenter and recharge, much like a quiet time does for your spirit. If you are struggling with your blood pressure, adding a quiet time to your routine can only help.

      2) Brings Clarity to the Mind

When you give your brain time to be quiet, it allows you to sort your thoughts. We normally sort through our memories when we are asleep, but having a quiet time allows you to sort consciously, which brings much-needed clarity.

      3) Relaxes the Body

Finally, enjoying a moment of quiet with the Lord relaxes your body. Quiet time gives your body time to relax whether you do your quiet time at the beginning of the day or the end.

Spend Time With God

At the end of the day, we as Christians enjoy spending time with God. But we shouldn’t do it simply to gain these benefits. We should spend time with God because we want to. Christians want to know God as deeply and as wholly as we are capable of, and having a daily quiet time is one of the best ways for us to do that.
