How to Apply Bible Teachings in Everyday Life

by | Dec 14, 2024 | Christian Living

For many of us, just reading the Bible isn’t enough to really help us feel connected to the Word. Sure, we can read and absorb what’s written, but is it truly doing us any good if we aren’t also living in that Word? Here at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, we believe in helping our members feel as connected as possible. With that in mind, we’ve pulled together some of our top tips on how to apply Bible teachings in everyday life. If this sounds like something you’re ready to explore, then follow along!

Tip 1: Keep Key Scriptures Where You Can See Them

One way to keep yourself connected to the Bible teachings that you want to live by is to keep them where you’ll see them. Write these verses out on sticky notes, on your mirror, or even have them pop up as reminders on your phone! The more you see your scriptures, the more you’ll remember to exemplify them.

Tip 2: Keep Prayer Times

One of the best ways to apply the Bible in your life is with prayer. Set aside times for your conversations with God. These times can be to go over recent passages you’ve read and feel strongly about, or they can be to ask Him what he wants you to share with the world today from His Word.

Tip 3: Let the Truth In

Part of living with the scripture is allowing all its aspects to come to light. This means the good and the bad – the light and the dark. You can’t accept and live in one without doing the same with the other. Scripture can reveal some happy tidings to enjoy, but it also can point out things in your life that you need to stop or to do better in. The Bible is always the truth, even if we don’t always like it.

Tip 4: Allow for Change

Following the point above, if you find that your life isn’t aligning with the scriptures you’re trying to live by, then you have to make changes. We can’t cherry-pick what pieces of the Bible to follow – God’s Word is what we choose to follow as Christians, and that means all of it.

Tip 5: Listen Closely

If you have a long commute or just enjoy listening instead of reading, try listening to the Bible, a devotional, or to scripture-based podcasts. This is a great way to get a little more God into your day-to-day, allowing Him to be a part of your world a little bit more.

Remember that the Word of God was written for us to live. It teaches us, helps us grow into better humans, and allows us to reach out to others to show them God’s love. If we bring the Bible and its teachings into our own everyday lives, then how much easier will it be for us to share that knowledge and love with those we come in contact with? If you’re feeling inspired, then join our family of all kinds and live in the Word with us!
